Materials
We describe every material plainly. The exact materials, measurements and finish of each piece are listed on its product page.
Lab-created moissanite
Moissanite is a gemstone made of silicon carbide. It was first found in tiny amounts in a meteorite crater; the moissanite used in jewelry today is lab-created, which means it is grown in a laboratory rather than mined.
Moissanite is valued for its brilliance and fire, the flashes of rainbow light it gives off. It is a gemstone in its own right: it is its own stone, and we describe it only as lab-created moissanite.
Cultured freshwater pearls
Cultured freshwater pearls are grown in freshwater mussels. A pearl farmer starts the process, and the mussel slowly builds up layers of nacre, the material that gives a pearl its glow.
Because every pearl grows on its own, no two are exactly alike. Small differences in shape, size, luster, color and surface are natural and part of their character.
Metals and finishes
Our settings, chains and clasps come in silver-tone and gold-tone finishes. The metal and finish of each piece are stated on its product page. Plated finishes wear gradually with time and friction; see our Jewelry Care guide to help them last.
Packaging
Every piece arrives in a Pearl & Vane gift box, ready to give.
